The story of “half quilt”
“半条被子”的故事
In Shazhou Yao Village, Wenming Yao Township, Rucheng County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. In November 1934, on the Long March of the Central Red Army, various legions successively arrived at the Civilized Fair of Rucheng County, stationed in Civilized, Shazhou and other places, and rested here. Three exhausted female Red Army soldiers stayed at Xu Jiexiu’s house, a Yao villager in Shazhou Village.
在湖南省郴州市汝城县文明瑶族乡沙洲瑶族村。1934年11月，中央红军长征途中，各个军团陆续抵达汝城县文明圩，驻扎在文明、沙洲等地，并在此休整。3位疲惫不堪的女红军借宿在沙洲村瑶族村民徐解秀家。
The women’s red army carried a quilt in their clothes. In the evening, Xu Jiexiu and the three female Red Army soldiers shared the quilt and squeezed into the only bamboo bed, while the male host slept on the grass pile at the door to guard them.
女红军们的行装里，带着一条棉被。晚上，徐解秀就和3位女红军合盖这一条被子，挤在唯一的楠竹床上，而男主人则睡在门口的草堆上守护着她们。

The three female Red Army soldiers ate, lived and worked together with Xu Jiexiu. They also helped Xu Jiexiu cook and cook. In their spare time, they taught Xu Jiexiu and his wife revolutionary principles. A few days later, the women’s Red Army soldiers were about to go on their way. They decided to leave the quilt to the poor family, but the Xu Jiexiu couple refused to accept anything they said. During the dispute, a female Red Army took out a pair of scissors from her backpack, cut the quilt in half, left the half quilt to Xu Jiexiu, and told her that after the revolution was successful, she must be given a complete new quilt. After taking over half the quilt, Xu Jiexiu could not say a word, and tears poured down.
三位女红军与徐解秀同吃同住同劳动，还帮着徐解秀烧火煮饭，空闲时给徐解秀夫妇讲革命道理。几天后，女红军们要上路了，她们决定把被子留给这户贫苦的人家，但徐解秀夫妇说什么也不肯接受。争执间，一位女红军从背包中摸出一把剪刀，把被子剪成了两半，将半条被子留给徐解秀，并对她说，等革命成功以后，一定要送她一条完整的新棉被。接过半条被子，徐解秀一句话也说不出，眼泪哗哗地流了下来……
Later, the revolution won, the country became rich and powerful, and Xu Jiexiu’s family was well fed and clothed. But the warmth of the half quilt always warmed Xu Jiexiu’s heart. Xu Jiexiu has waited for decades, but has not waited for three female Red Army soldiers to return.
后来，革命胜利了，国家富强了，徐解秀家也丰衣足食了，但那半条被子的热度，一直温暖着徐解秀的内心。徐解秀等了几十年，一直没等回3位女红军。

“半条被子”的故事，是中国共产党人民情怀和为民本质的体现，也是长征期间中国共产党以真心暖人心、以初心赢民心的缩影。
The country is the people, and the people are the country. The “half quilt” reflects the original intention and mission, and guides the Communists to always adhere to the principle of “all for the people, all rely on the people, share weal and woe with the people, share weal and woe, share weal and woe with the people, and continue to take the Long March in the new era.”
江山就是人民，人民就是江山。“半条被子”映照着初心和使命，引领着共产党人永远坚持一切为了人民、一切依靠人民，同人民群众风雨同舟、血肉相连、命运与共，继续走好新时代长征路。
党的十八大以来，习近平总书记多次深情讲述长征途中三名红军战士给老百姓分剪“半条被子”的故事，并亲自踏访故事发生地——湖南汝城县沙洲村。外国语学院学生党支部全体党员学习后纷纷表示，要牢记习近平总书记的重要讲话精神，从“半条被子”的温暖故事中感悟对党忠诚的初心和使命，传承好红色基因，听党话、跟党走，续写新时代“半条被子”的故事，走好新时代的长征路。
